Sachse’s location on Highway 78, and the 1-½ mile proximity from the Bush Turnpike, has been a boon to the city, whose population is now around 23,000.

With additional residents and traffic, aside from schools, the need for successful business development is primary.

Sachse Economic Development Corporation CEO Leslyn Blake took the opportunity to speak to council members during a recent meeting to present a status report. She reported the economic growth in the counties north of Dallas is driving the demand for more housing.

“Housing is hot in Sachse and has been for the past year,” she said. “It’s common place to receive multiple offers on homes here before they officially list.”

“Once a bedroom community, the booming city now has over 120,000 vehicles a day on the main arteries of Hwy. 78,”Blake said. “ Sachse has 7,000 households with an average income of $105,000.”

The SEDC’s goal, according to Blake, is to make Sachse more prosperous through job creation and quality development that adds to the community value.

“Businesses can utilize the SEDC to create an environment attractive to quality non-residential development,” she said. “We have developed initiatives that result in value and development in targeted areas of the Hwy. 78 corridor.”

The corporation wants to facilitate quality development on PGBT while pursuing businesses that meet the needs and wants of Sachse’s citizens.

The SEDC is involved with the Hwy. 78 beautification, visioning, and feasibility studies. Business retention and expansion is the activity that an economic development agency undertakes in order to reduce loss of private sector businesses. Successful customer retention starts with the first contact the agency has with a private sector business and continues throughout the entire lifetime of a relationship said Blake.

New businesses to Sachse include the Walmart Supercenter, Walmart Neighborhood Market, Murphy Express, and Laguna Madre Traders. Businesses under construction include the Woodbridge Gates Addition, LA Fitness, Urgent Care, Shops at Woodbridge Commons, Luxury Nails, several dentist facilities, GNC, Great Clips, Wells Fargo, Sachse Neighborhood Market Strip Center, Oasis Nail Bar, Woodbridge Village and a 7-11.

“The mission of the Sachse Economic Development Corporation is to act on behalf of the city in promoting and developing authorized projects,” Blake said. “We support economic development activities to retain, expand and attract businesses for the purpose of diversifying the tax base and improving the quality of life of the citizens of Sachse.”
