A welfare concern call recently put Wylie police on high alert when it was reported that an individual possibly was in possession of a gun.
The incident occurred on Thursday, July 9, and concluded with the death of a man who sustained a self-inflicted gunshot wound, Det. Nuria Arroyo said.
Officers were dispatched to 1406 Millbrook at about 10:20 p.m. on a call from the family of John Hemby, 46, the detective reports.
When officers arrived they discovered that a man, presumed to be Hemby, was in a car outside the residence and a long gun was spotted, Arroyo explained.
Members of the police SWAT team were dispatched to the scene as a safety precaution. Officers were unable to make contact with the man until they approached the vehicle and found that he was deceased.
The detective reported that the man, identified as Hemby, sustained a single, shotgun wound to the abdomen.
