PLANO, TX – Senator Van Taylor was today awarded a 100 percent voting record from the National Federation of Independent Business (NFIB)/Texas on legislation impacting small businesses. A leading small business association, NFIB has 24,000 Texas members representing a cross-section of the state’s economy.

“With over 60,000 businesses in our district, I am constantly inspired by the passion and dedication of our job creators to tackle the risks of starting their own business and investing in our community,” stated Taylor. “The formula is simple: jobs come from small business, not big government. It is the hard-work, vision, and entrepreneurial spirit of our small businesses, that have propelled Texas to become the leader in jobs and economic opportunity. During the 2015 legislative session, Senator Taylor helped pass historic tax relief that included a 25 percent cut of the business franchise tax. This legislation also allows small businesses the ability to use the EZ computation, which would minimize the time and paperwork needed for compliance. The franchise tax is an especially punitive tax as it taxes gross receipts and is tremendously difficult and costly to comply. In their 2015 rankings of state business tax climate, the non-partisan Tax Foundation ranked Texas 39th amongst states based on their relative tax burden. The study noted that if the margins tax were to be repealed, Texas would have ranked 1st in business tax climate.

A local small businessman and decorated Marine Officer, Van Taylor serves the majority of Collin County and a portion of Dallas County in the Texas Senate where he is widely recognized as a conservative leader.
