Plano Deputy Fire Chief Martin Wade has been hired as Interim Chief for Sachse Fire and Rescue. He began the position Jan. 11 after former Chief Rick Coleman announced his retirement.

The former chief said he was given some retirement options and chose the one that would be best for his family.

“I felt that if a working relationship isn’t crisp any more then it was time to move on,” he said. “I plan on using my 28 years of experience to move forward. I am exploring a lot of opportunities.”

The interim chief is actually on loan from Plano said City Manager Gina Nash.

“Plano has an incredible succession planning program,” she said. “That’s a common practice for them. It allows their employees to go other municipalities while gathering and sharing information to make both cities richer.”

Wade has 27 years of experience with Plano FD. He started as a Fire Rescue specialist in 1989 and worked his way up the “fire ladder” to Deputy Chief of Logistics.

“They call me ‘Chief of Stuff,’” he said. “I was in charge of operations such as managing the department’s fleet, equipment and facilities.”
