An Interlocal agreement between the cities of Sachse and Plano regarding the terms of the hiring Interim Fire Chief Martin Wade was approved during the January 18 regular council meeting.

The agreement will enable Sachse to have an Interim Fire Chief while they conduct a search to hire a full-time fire chief. Sachse has requested that Plano allow Deputy Chief Martin Wade serve in the interim position in return for compensation for services rendered.

Both cities agreed to Wade’s temporary employment beginning in January, automatically renewing each week unless terminated sooner.

City manager Gina Nash said the agreement may be terminated by either party for any reason or no reason by giving at least 14 days written notice to the other party.

“Sachse may terminate this agreement immediately and without notice upon the conviction of Chief Wade in any felony, or of any misdemeanor involving theft, or the failure of Chief Wade to diligently or properly perform his duties under this agreement,” she said.

Sachse will compensate Plano at a rate of $84.30 per hour for hours worked by Wade as per the agreement.

The Interim Chief will continue to draw his current salary in Plano and will not be on paid leave from Plano during this assignment, nor will this assignment create a vacancy at the Plano Fire Department.
