Tornado benefit 5K coming soon

Want to help tornado victims? An upcoming benefit is being held March 19 in Garland. The Texas Tornado 5K Run will be held to raise funds for the Farmersville, Copeville and Garland area.

The race will kickoff at 8 a.m., preceded by the 1 mile fun-run at 7:30 a.m. and on-site registration at 6:30 a.m. The event is being held in downtown Garland at 107 N. 6th St.

Through the Good Samaritans of Garland, Inc. organization funds are being raised to provide food, rent/mortgage and utility assistance to the survivors of the Dec. 26 tornadoes.

A core group of seven people who just wanted to help started trying to raise money to aid the victims and in January were able to raise $27,000 in coordination with The Salvation Army.
