Two more wins means district title, unbeaten season for Sachse

SACHSE — The Mustangs cleared a major district hurdle last Friday evening, and did so with relative ease.

That obstacle was the Rowlett Eagles, who, like Sachse, entered the fray at Homer B. Johnson Stadium unbeaten at 3-0 in 10-6A. When it was all said and done, the Eagles department HBJ 3-1 in district, while the Mustangs were alone at the top at 4-0. Sachse has clinched a playoff berth, as has Lakeview Centennial (3-1 in district) a team the Mustangs defeated 35-14 earlier this season.

Now, after taking sole possession of first, the Mustangs’ goal is to stay there and win a 10-6A crown. That will earn Sachse a bi-district playoff home game against a 9-6A representative, because they would be the top-ranked Div. I school in 10-6A.

Sachse can clinch that home spot — they might not win the district outright — starting 7 p.m. Friday at HBJ, where the Mustangs face Naaman Forest (5-3 and 3-2) for homecoming. A week later, the Mustangs close out the regular season against South Garland, also at HBJ, where a victory would clinch first place.
