SACHSE — Head coach Donna McCullough doesn’t mince words when discussing the Lady Mustangs’ non-district campaign.
“Our pre-district schedule has been brutal for this young team, but they are getting better,” she said.
Actually, Sachse has more than it held its own against such foes, accumulating an 8-4 record heading into last week’s Thanksgiving break. They resumed action Tuesday at Dallas Christian and will play in this weekend’s Curtis Culwell Tournament, which tips off for Sachse 1 p.m. today against Dallas Carter at Sachse High School.
A victory there puts the Lady Mustangs into the championship round, where three more wins gets them a title. The same scenario is true if they lose and drop into the consolation bracket. The title games will take place Saturday, with the championship final set for 4:30 p.m. at the Curtis Culwell Center and the consolation title game 6 p.m. at Sachse High School.
Also vying for a shot at the Culwell crown among the formidable 16-team field are Tyler Lee, Rowlett, Little Elm, South Garland, Mount Vernon, Naaman Forest, Mesquite Horn, Frisco Wakeland, Garland, Wylie East, Frisco Lone Star, North Garland, Lakeview Centennial and Highland Park.
