Public works officials have established a list of priorities regarding street expansion and maintenance for fiscal year 2018.

The work is part of Sachse’s Capital Improvement for the next fiscal year, which commences this October. The city council was presented with a top-10 list for street expansion and one for maintenance at its June 19 regular meeting.

A major priority regarding street expansion is the widening of Sachse Road and 5th Street from Miles Road to Hwy. 78, a project that’s expected to cost around $6 million. Sachse and Dallas County will split the cost 50-50, said Greg Peters, Sachse’s director of public works.

That’s the one project where construction will likely get done in FY 2018, Peters said. As for the other projects, Peters said he expects them to move forward during the next fiscal year, but is unsure whether that’ll involve any construction work.

Other potential street widening priorities are:

  • Merritt Road realignment at Sachse Road, a project expected to cost about $4.7 million. The funding source has yet to be identified.
