Sachse police officers have had some extra help over the past several months. The Volunteers In Police Service program has helped the department to distribute some duties to volunteers and allowed officers and other paid staff to work on other assignments.
The program currently has 19 volunteers that help the department in a variety of duties such as vacation house checks and warrant audits. Some of the volunteers even help with police duties following a car accident, such as waiting for a tow truck or controlling traffic.
