A group of elementary-age kids are expanding their worldviews one book at a time.
Cox Elementary’s fourth grade book club just completed its first year and is already seeing results.
“Sometimes students only like one genre, so this broadens their horizons,” said librarian and club sponsor Veronica McKay. “It promotes [reading] for fun instead of reading for an end.”
Between 15 and 30 children usually attend meetings, held once a month. A third grade book club, averaging 35 attendees, has just completed its second year of existence.
