In a unanimous decision last week, councilmembers denied a rezoning request after receiving negative feedback from citizens.
Council met in regular session Monday, June 17 to conduct a public hearing about the potential rezoning of 6.18 acres of land on Sachse Road to Planned Development. It is currently zoned Residential-1 and Agriculture.
The property in question is in a largely residential area, at the future intersection of Merritt Road and Woodbridge Parkway.
If approved, its new status would have allowed restaurants, general retail, gas stations, medical buildings, offices, studios, religious institutions and childcare facilities to be built. When Merritt Road is realigned, the road will split the current property in half.
Nine residents spoke out against the proposal.
