Garland and Wylie Independent School Districts have voted on their 2019-20 budgets.
GISD trustees are expected to approve a $610.6 million budget. They met Tuesday, June 25, but results of the vote were not available at press time.
They calculated expenses using 2018 state funding formulas and will amend figures when calculations are completed using new formulas brought about from changes in school financing passed by the 86th Texas Legislature in May. The major changes will be an increase in state funding for GISD, and a decrease in revenue generated by property taxes.
The new budget is broken into maintenance and operations ($486.6 million), debt service ($86.2 million) and student nutrition ($37.8 million). It increased 2.6 percent from this past year’s budget of $587.3 million.
