Although school won’t start for another few weeks, families are starting to get clothes, supplies and snacks in order. However, this isn’t always an easy task.
Both Collin and Dallas Counties have large impoverished populations. Officials from the two counties counted 4,140 homeless people on one night in January 2018, a 9 percent increase from 2017. But many of these families don’t make their struggle known – they go to work and school, trying to live as normally as possible.
That’s where food pantries come in.
Sachse boasts 5 Loaves Food Pantry, which opened in 2015. Director Audrey Wallace notices an increase in demands when the first day of school approaches.
