For Sachse resident Major Morris Shepherd, the Army provided more than a chance at adventure; it also gave him a passion for helping people.
Shepherd was born on a farm in Grapeland in 1952, the youngest of eight children. His father fought in World War II and his oldest brother was a Korean War veteran.
