A year ago, the Sachse soccer team caught fire at the right time, fueling a run to the Class 6A State Tournament. That is what Coach Benjamin Buentello is hoping will take place next week when the Mustangs open the playoffs against Mesquite at Hanby Stadium.
Sachse closed out the year with a record of (11-5-6), taking third in District 9-6A. Meanwhile, the Skeeters edged out Tyler Legacy for second in the District 10-6A, thanks in part to a six-game stretch to start February in which they did not lose.
Still, they will enter the postseason having lost two of their last three, while Sachse has lost just one game in regulation across their last nine. Their bi-district matchup will take place on Tuesday, March 26 at 7:15 p.m.
