The Sachse City Council approved a $10.98 million contract with McMahon Contracting LP for the Bailey Road reconstruction project on Monday.
During the Aug. 5 meeting, council member Matt Prestenberg cast the sole dissenting vote. The project, part of the 2021 bond initiatives, will upgrade 5,500 linear feet of Bailey and Hooper roads, including a new 36-foot concrete section, sidewalks, trails, and enhanced water and sewer infrastructure.
Corey Nesbit, Director of CIP and Public Works, noted the bid was revised from “low bidder” to “best qualified bid” after previous bids were rejected due to incompleteness or high pricing. McMahon’s bid was $1 million more than the initial $9.8 million estimate, but city funds from water and sewer impact fees will cover the overage.
The project’s timeline will be discussed with McMahon, with work expected to start in September or October.
In other news, Sachse approved an agreement with Garland to address a sewer line issue affecting six Garland homes.
