New animal shelter nearing completion, Bond 2021 updates

by | Aug 12, 2024 | Area News

City Manager says grand opening is possible by end of October

Sachse’s new animal shelter is nearing completion and City Manager Gina Nash said the facility could open by the end of October.

The development of a new animal shelter was included in the 2021 bond, with voters approving the package and its $5 million cost.

During the Aug. 5 council meeting, Nash said crews have installed flooring, electrical and kennels, and are currently working on landscape and irrigation. Furniture and appliances are to be installed in September and the turf and canopy will go in in September.

Nash said the project is within budget and that the city wants both staff and animals to have time acclimating themselves to the facility before opening it up.

Nash also provided an update on additional Bond 2021 projects, noting phase 2 of the Sachse Road redevelopment is in conceptual planning with the layout 90% complete.

Council approved the agreement for phase 2 of the project in February. She added designs for the project are 30% complete. She added construction is anticipated in 2025, with work on phase 3 not starting until 2028.

Work on Williford Road, from SH 78 to Bailey Road is expected to begin in 2026 and work on West Creek Lane, from Sachse to Timbercreek Court will occur next year.
