GARLAND — Sachse junior quarterback Dirk Williams Jr. threw for three touchdowns and 186 yards and the Mustangs’ defense forced three turnovers in a dominant 44-17 win over Wylie from Homer B. Johnson Stadium on Thursday.

Senior running back Brendon Haygood ripped off a 98-yard touchdown run midway through the first quarter to put the Mustangs ahead for good. Haygood finished with 146 rushing yards.

Sachse’s defense created havoc all game long to limit a Wylie team that finished with 614 total yards in last week’s win over North Garland to just 216 yards Thursday. The Mustangs did their best work in the trenches, holding the Pirates to 104 rushing yards on 39 carries for an average of 2.67 yards per rushing attempt.

Sachse (3-1 overall, 2-0 District 9-6A) plays Lakeview Centennial next Friday night.
