GARLAND – Garland police are investigating a shooting in an apartment complex parking lot that left one man dead late Saturday night.

Officers responded to reports of a weapons disturbance on West Buckingham Road just before 11:30 p.m.

Upon arrival, they discovered a 21-year-old male victim suffering from an apparent gunshot wound. He was transported to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Police launched an investigation, with officers and a K9 unit working to gather information about the incident. The K9 tracked the suspect, who fled the scene on foot. A 16-year-old male, identified as a student at Sachse High School, was located and arrested on a charge alleging murder.

The suspect is being held at the Dallas County Juvenile Detention Center. Authorities have not released the victim’s name, pending notification of next of kin.

Investigators have determined that the shooting was not a random act of violence and are continuing to piece together the events that led to the shooting.

Anyone with information regarding the shooting is urged to contact the Garland Police Department at 972-485-4840.
