Sloan Davidson, 5, embodies Harry Potter while sister Ryleigh, 9, casts spells as a wizard at the library event last week.
The Sachse Public Library transformed into a wizarding wonderland during Spring Break with its annual Harry Potter Night serving as the highlight of the week’s events.
Residents of all ages were encouraged by library staff to “dress up as your favorite character or in your house robes and grab your invitation to Diagon Alley, where you can visit different wizarding stores and find out what magical mysteries they have waiting.”
The Tuesday, March 18, event featured an owl station in the main library, where a special guest from the Blackland Prairie Raptor Center, a raptor rescue rehabilitation facility located in Lucas, showcased a native Texas Eastern screech owl. Meanwhile, the community meeting room hosted various themed stations, including Wand Making, where aspiring witches and wizards crafted their own magical tools. A vibrant Diagon Alley setup offered sweet treats with large signs displaying the names of iconic shops such as Eeylops Owl Emporium, Gringotts and Flourish & Blotts, adding to the immersive atmosphere.
The library’s Spring Break programming also included stamp art and foam plate printing sessions for creative minds, a visit from a local dentist promoting healthy habits, a spy training camp for adventurous kids and a teen sensory hangout designed for relaxation and connection.
Upcoming events at the library include a book talk at 6 p.m. Wednesday, March 26, to discuss “The Lady Has a Past” by Amanda Quick and Family Game Night and Reading with Greta on Tuesday, April 1.
In addition, the library is launching a Teen Dungeons & Dragons campaign led by a teen for ages 13-18. Interested participants must sign up by April 7.
