Sachse City Council has approved a zone change that opens the door for drone delivery of goods purchased by residents.

Councilmembers voted unanimously Monday, June 2 to rezone property next to the Walmart Supercenter on Woodbridge Parkway, allowing the use of temporary buildings to support the new delivery system. The decision followed a lengthy discussion and includes several provisions the council will revisit two years after the completion of temporary modular buildings at the site.

At issue is whether the company will eventually build a permanent structure to accommodate drones that could make as many as 400 deliveries daily.
