Sachse residents and local organizations collected emergency supplies last week to aid communities recovering from devastating flooding in Central Texas.
Sachse Fire-Rescue opened Station No. 1 as a temporary drop-off site July 9–11, with volunteers from the Sachse Fire Medical Corps and CERT (Community Emergency Response Team) on hand to receive donations. Requested items included hygiene supplies, bottled water, diapers, non-perishable food and basic first aid items.
Several community groups stepped up to help. By the Barnyard Gate provided the largest single donation and local nonprofit 5 Loaves Food Pantry contributed as well. Several individuals also stopped by to offer support.
In a social media post by Gurvinder Singh, one of the organizers of the effort, he thanked Sachse Fire-Rescue for providing space in Station No. 1 for Relief and Emergency Supplies to be collected. Additionally, Singh thanked Sachse Fire Medical Corps & Sachse CERT “for stepping up to volunteer and man the station to accept the incoming supplies.”
Donations were scheduled to be delivered to distribution centers operated by The Salvation Army, the American Legion and other agencies. Teams from United Sikhs have also been on the ground in Central Texas, preparing hot meals for first responders and displaced families.
