There has been no shortage of winning at Sachse.
From district titles to deep playoff runs, Sachse athletics saw widespread success across multiple sports in 2024-25.
The Mustangs are hopeful for similar success this upcoming school year.
The Sachse News is proud to take a look at the varsity returners that are expected to make a big impact for their respective teams.
Abigail Leonard, Jr., Track and Field
After competing in the Class 6A state cross country meet as a freshman, Leonard has since focused her attention to the track. This year, she broke the school record in both the girls’ 1,600-meter run and girls’ 3,200-meter run. Her new school record time in the 1,600 came at the Region II-6A meet, where she crossed the finish line with a time of 5 minutes, 23.3 seconds. Although she fell short of qualifying for the state meet, the postseason was an overwhelming success. Leonard won the District 9-6A title in the 1,600 and 3,200, and at the area 9-6A/10-6A meet, captured first place in the 3,200 and third place in the 1,600.
Clara Dowdle, Sr., Girls Soccer
Sachse has had the top defender in District 9-6A in each of the last three seasons, with Dowdle having won the award the last two years. Dowdle also earned a selection on the Texas Association of Soccer Coaches Class 6A All-State second team following the conclusion of this past season. Her efforts guarding the back line helped lead the Lady Mustangs to one of their best seasons in program history. Sachse finished in third place in the district standings and went on to make an appearance in the Region II-6A Division I final, where the Lady Mustangs lost 1-0 to The Woodlands.
Dylan Wisener, Sr. Boys Golf
Wisener won the District 9-6A title as a junior, shooting a 141 over the course of 36 holes. He stormed out to the lead at the end of the first day after shooting 68 and followed that up with a 73 on Day 2. His efforts helped to lead the Mustangs to first place in the district tournament. The Mustangs finished with a five-player score of 594, recording a score of 296 on the first day and a 298 on the second day, good enough to qualify Sachse for the Region II-6A Tournament.
Kate McCallister, Sr., Girls Soccer
In addition to Dowdle, McCallister is another key returner for a team with high expectations heading into the 2026 season. Named to the TASCO All-Region II-6A first team as well as being honored as the district’s midfielder of the year, McCallister, a University of Oklahoma commit, led all 9-6A midfielders in scoring, with 20 goals and 10 assists.
Matthew Hudgins, Sr., Boys Basketball
As Sachse prepares to enter its first season with Micah Moore as head coach, one player that Moore says that he can count on for experience and leadership to help the Mustangs build on their recent success is Hudgins. Named to the All-District 9-6A second team as a junior, Hudgins, a 6-foot-3 guard/small forward, averaged 12.3 points per game, 3.3 rebounds and 2.2 assists while shooting 44 percent on 3-pointers.
Maya McClarity, Jr., Softball
Following in the footsteps of her older sister, Dee, Maya has provided a big source of power for the Lady Mustangs. Named to the All-District 9-6A first team as a sophomore, Maya led Sachse in batting average (.537), home runs (8) and RBI (52) and hits (51). When she was not playing shortstop, she was on the mound. She recorded 71 strikeouts against 42 walks and allowed 48 earned runs in 65.2 innings.
Trason Haley, Jr., Football
With Sachse having lost 37 seniors to graduation, the Mustangs will look to Haley, a two-way standout on the offensive and defensive lines, for experience and leadership. Named to the All-District 9-6A second team at defensive tackle, Haley flourished in his first season playing varsity football, recording 45 tackles, 11 tackles for loss, four sacks, nine quarterback hurries and four passes defended, helping to lead the Mustangs to a second consecutive 8-0 record in district play and another district championship.
Trinity Thompson, So., Girls Basketball/Track and Field
Another member of the Thompson family is showing signs that she can be a dominant force. Despite missing the last seven games of her freshman season because of an injury, she was a big reason why the Lady Mustangs repeated as district champs. She earned a district superlative despite being a freshman, being bestowed with defensive player of the year. Thompson recorded 88 deflections and a team-high 81 steals while also contributing at the offensive end, with 91 assists and averaged 10.9 points per game.
