Sachse City Council is considering whether to regulate donation bins scattered throughout the city after hearing a staff report recommending a new ordinance.
At its Monday, Aug. 18 regular meeting, council received a proposal outlining rules for bin placement, permits and maintenance. No action was taken, but members plan to revisit the issue Sept. 15.
City Manager Gina Nash said she wanted staff to have “plenty of time” to draft an ordinance before it comes back to council.
Assistant City Manager Lauren Rose presented the proposal, citing complaints from residents, property owners and even bin operators about overfilled and poorly maintained sites. “This has been a popular concern in the community for quite a while,” Rose said. Photos shown to the council depicted properties with as many as six bins piled with clothing, appliances and household goods.
