Sachse came up big when it counted in their 23-19 District 9-6A win over Garland on Friday from Homer B. Johnson Stadium.

Backup quarterback Christian McCaffrey connected with Brendon Quinn to top the Owls, who were leading by three points going into the two minutes of the game. Then Chace Wesley sealed the game with his second interception of the night.

Garland fought back from a 16-7 deficit in the second quarter to take a 19-16 lead on a 41-yard field goal by Colten Dunbarger with 5:30 remaining in the ballgame.

Faced with its first deficit of the night, Sachse conjured one final touchdown drive. The Mustangs rallied with a 20-yard touchdown pass from McCaffrey to Quinn with 1:49 remaining.

Sachse head coach Mark “Red” Behrens said the Mustangs (2-1 overall, 1-0 district) needs to clean up its mistakes, but he was pleased with the way his team rallied in the final quarter.

Sachse will look to make it three straight wins next Friday, Sept. 19 at Wylie (1-2, 1-0).
