Mustang boys run to sixth place, girls eighth at Texas A&M Invite

The Sachse cross-country team stepped away from the Dallas area and made the drive to College Station last Saturday to compete in the Texas A&M Invitational.

The Mustangs had a productive outing at Watts Cross Country Course, with the Sachse girls placing sixth out of 23 teams with 222 points, while the boys’ team placed eighth with 288 points.

Junior Abigail Leonard ran the fastest time for Sachse in the varsity girls 5K, finishing 23rd in 19:17. Sophomore Alicia Payne was next for the Lady Mustangs, taking 32nd in 19:45. Sophomore Arora Ngo finished 34th in 19:52, two spots behind Payne. Sophomore Adeline Moss placed 80th in 21:08, followed by senior Maicen Keefer in 83rd at 21:12.

Sophomore Kaitlyn Herrera was 123rd in 21:58. Senior Kiery Guadarrama finished 131st in 22:06, edging teammate Sophia Olade, who was 132nd in 22:07. Senior Madison Keefer placed 176th in 23:31.

The Mustang boys also turned in fast times, with all seven runners completing the 5K course in under 18 minutes.

Junior Samuel Ledbetter paced Sachse with a 16:18 for 45th. Sophomores Dominic Richardson and Sadiki Mburu finished 60th and 61st, respectively, in 16:31 and 16:35. Senior Roman Rabel took 78th in 16:49, with senior Henry Lesley two places behind in 16:51. Junior Ozzy Heredia was 84th in 16:54. Sophomore Grayson Redden placed 184th in 17:56.

Sachse is scheduled to return to race action this Saturday at the HOKA McNeil Invitational at Old Settlers Park in Round Rock.
