A one-yard touchdown run by Wylie junior quarterback Jabriran Blake with 1:08 left spoiled a hard-fought effort by Sachse in a 34-27 loss at Wylie ISD Stadium on Friday.

The late touchdown came after Blake found star running back Daylon Gordon wide open in the middle of the field. He carried the ball to the one-yard line with 1:11 left in the game and on the next play, Blake scored for the game-winner with 1:08 left.

The Mustangs scored with 3:40 left in the fourth quarter on a 53-yard touchdown pass from junior quarterback Christian McCaffrey to senior wide receiver Marcus Rhoden, tying the score at 27-27, but Wylie responded two minutes later with Blake giving the Pirates the lead for good.

McCaffrey threw for 208 passing yards on 11-of-30 through the air with two touchdowns. Rhoden was McCaffrey’s favorite target in the passing game. Rhoden caught three passes for 122 yards and two touchdowns. Senior Roderick Rainwater powered the Mustangs’ rushing attack, finishing with 84 rushing yards and one touchdown.

The loss snapped Sachse’s 18-game district winning streak.

The Mustangs dropped to 2-2 overall, 1-1 in District 9-6A.
