Rowlett never trailed, never punted and was rarely stopped as the Eagles rolled to an offensive showcase win, 42-33, over Sachse Thursday night at Homer B. Johnson Stadium.

Both teams are headed to the 6A football playoffs next week. Rowlett finished 6-2 in 9-6A play and 6-4 overall. Sachse finished at 5-3, 6-4.

Sachse head coach Mark Behrens said depending on the outcome of Friday’s 9-6A games, his Mustangs will likely play Heath High School in bi-district action next Friday night in Rockwall.

“I told the kids tonight, ‘There are a lot of teams that wish they were playing next week,’” he said. “We’re going to need some players to step up to advance in the playoffs.”

Offense certainly wasn’t the problem for the Mustangs as quarterback Christian McCaffrey threw three touchdown passes to Marcus Rhoden – covering 70, 12 and 26 yards, including one with 48 seconds left in the game – but his team could never get a stop when it needed one.

Sachse’s offense churned out 370 yards in total offense and 23 first downs but gave up 435 and 23 first downs as well.
