Sachse’s cross country runners and football players were recognized for their efforts this season at separate team banquets last week.

A total of 13 awards were presented by the coaches to the Sachse football players during a ceremony Dec. 10 in the school’s atrium.

Senior place kicker Hunter Brison was named the Mustangs’ Special Teams MVP.

Sophomore linebacker Willehado Palomo and senior wide receiver Marcus Rhoden were voted Co-Newcomers of the Year, and Rhoden was also named Wide Receiver of the Year.

Palomo, named the District 9-6A Defensive Newcomer of the Year, finished with 98 tackles, one sack, six tackles for loss and one fumble recovery in his first varsity season for Sachse, while Rhoden stepped up to take the lead role at wide receiver after significant losses at that position due to graduation. Rhoden had 26 catches for 783 yards and eight receiving touchdowns.

Senior offensive lineman Sidney Carriere III and senior linebacker Hunter Malcolm won the Co-Fighting Mustangs award, while senior wide receiver Yoseph Abel and senior linebacker Corbin Crane earned the Scholar-Athletes award. Crane was also voted Linebacker of the Year, amassing 105 tackles with five tackles for loss.

Senior running back Dirk Williams won two awards: Take No Days Off and Offensive MVP. He started the season at quarterback but helped elevate Sachse’s offense after moving to running back halfway through the season. Williams finished second on the team in rushing yards with 531 and scored eight rushing touchdowns.

Senior Roderick Rainwater was named Offensive Skill Player of the Year after racking up a team-best 634 rushing yards with eight touchdowns.

Sophomore CJ Arimah was voted Sachse’s Offensive Lineman of the Year.

Defensive Player of the Year went to junior defensive lineman Trason Haley, who had a team-high 10 tackles for loss, 51 total tackles, five sacks and five quarterback hurries.

Senior Julian Cole was named Defensive Lineman of the Year after recording 34 tackles and seven tackles for loss. Seniors Kaeden Swann and Chace Wesley shared Co-Defensive Back of the Year honors, combining for 42 tackles, 13 passes defended and seven interceptions.

Six runners from the Sachse cross country team earned team awards.

Junior Samuel Ledbetter and Abigail Leonard were named Most Valuable Runners. Leonard and Ledbetter helped lead Sachse to a sweep of the team titles at the district meet. Leonard later qualified for the state meet for the second time, and Ledbetter qualified for the first time.

Sophomores Dominic Richardson and Arora Ngo were recipients of the Heart Award. Richardson won first place at the district meet, while Ngo placed fifth.

Sophomore Alicia Payne and freshman Brave Cook captured Co-Newcomer of the Year honors. Payne finished seventh in the girls’ division at the 9-6A meet.
