Community traditions, family fun fill year of city events

by | Dec 31, 2025 | Latest

The Choo Choo Express’ conductor offers rides to visitors of all ages during the second annual Train Day July 26. The trackless train’s route began near the former location of Sachse’s original train depot and traveled to the Sachse Caboose.

From father-daughter dances and citywide cleanups to fireworks, drone shows and holiday celebrations, Sachse’s calendar of events in 2025 reflected a city committed to creating opportunities for families to connect, celebrate and enjoy their community.

The year began with one of Sachse’s most popular family traditions says. The city’s Daddy-Daughter Dance returned to the Michael J. Felix Community Center in February, drawing 260 dads and daughters for an evening of music, photos and memories. With no formal theme, the focus remained on time together, culminating in the crowning of Penelope Lund as Princess of the Night.

Community pride and volunteerism were on display in March during the city’s 14th annual Arbor Day Jubilee: Team Up and Clean Up. Despite gloomy weather, roughly 260 volunteers representing 21 groups gathered to beautify parks, roadways and waterways across Sachse. Participants kicked off the morning with breakfast and coffee before spreading out across the city, while Sachse High School HOSA students planted flowers near Dave Sanford Park.

Spring brought a full slate of family-friendly programming. Parks and Recreation hosted multiple Easter-themed events in April, including the Easter Egg Scramble for younger children, an Egg-Cessible Egg Hunt designed for accessibility, a Doggie Bone Hunt for four-legged residents and a Flashlight Egg Hunt that capped off the day in Heritage Park.

As summer approached, attention turned to seasonal celebrations and outdoor entertainment. Independence Day festivities returned July 3 with the Red, White and Blue Blast at Heritage Park, featuring live music, food vendors, lawn games and a splashdown hosted by the Sachse Fire Department. The evening concluded with a fireworks display that once again served as a centerpiece of the city’s summer celebrations.

July also marked National Parks and Recreation Month, with city staff recognized by council and residents encouraged to explore Sachse’s parks through a monthlong raffle contest. Families participated by visiting parks and sharing photos, while additional activities such as Teen Hogwarts Night and a Summer Send-Off party helped keep students engaged during the school break.

Late summer programming focused on creative, themed events for families. In September, the Mother ’n’ Son Space Adventure transformed the community center into an interactive experience complete with a mobile planetarium, science exhibits, inflatables and space-themed activities, offering mothers and sons a chance to explore together.

Fall festivities followed with a strong emphasis on community safety and seasonal fun. National Night Out returned in October with a Pop-Up Park event, allowing residents to meet first responders while enjoying games and activities. Fall-O-Ween followed, highlighted by a drone show that lit up the Sachse sky. Although wet weather canceled some activities, the aerial display drew crowds from surrounding neighborhoods.

The holiday season arrived early in Sachse with the annual Christmas Extravaganza, one of the city’s largest and most anticipated events. The celebration included a parade along Miles Road, a community tree lighting, performances by Sachse High School students and a wide range of family activities across the city campus. Families enjoyed photos with Santa, crafts, games, hayrides, sledding, a petting zoo and visits from Sparky, the fire department mascot.

Festivities continued into December with Pancakes with Santa, hosted by the Sachse Professional Fire Fighters Association at the city’s fire station. The fundraiser once again drew hundreds of residents, offering families a chance to enjoy breakfast while supporting local firefighters. Throughout the season, residents also participated in the Sachse Trail of Lights, touring decorated homes across the city using an interactive map.
