Multiple school records that have been held by the Sachse girls basketball team have either been broken or tied over the past year.
Alumna Charish Thompson became the program’s all-time leading scorer last season. Then last Saturday, junior guard Lily Burrow tied the school record for most 3-pointers in a game with eight.
Another school record was broken Tuesday. Senior forward Arianna Gregory poured in a single-game program record 36 points in a 76-32 home win over Naaman Forest.
Gregory didn’t need much time to earn her way into the scorebook. She scored 16 points in the first quarter. She broke the record just one. minute into the fourth quarter before watching the remainder of the game from the bench as the Lady Mustangs played their subs to finish out a blowout win over the Lady Rangers.
Sophomore Trinity Thompson added 19 points in the victory, followed by seven from senior Addison Hodge.
It was all Sachse (14-8 overall, 6-1 District 9-6A) from the get-go. The Lady Mustangs built a 27-7 first quarter lead before going on a 24-9 run in the second quarter to build a 51-16 halftime advantage.
The Sachse boys (11-10, 4-1) also earned a win Tuesday.
Three days after losing on a buzzer-beater to South Garland, Sachse defeated Naaman Forest 56-54 in overtime to get back into the win column.
Sachse led 28-24 at halftime. Naaman Forest outscored Sachse 22-18 in the second half to forced overtime. But in the extra session, the Mustangs held a 10-8 scoring edge and prevailed with the win.
Brayden Banks netted 13 points to lead a balanced scoring attack for Sachse. He was one of three Mustangs to finish in double figures in scoring. Matthew Hudgins and Miles Johnson each had 10 points.
