ROWLETT — Sachse relied on aggressive defense, balanced scoring and sustained pressure on both ends to pull away for a 63-38 victory over Rowlett on Friday night in a District 9-6A girls basketball matchup.
The Lady Mustangs set the tone early behind their activity in the passing lanes and willingness to attack in transition. Trinity Thompson opened the scoring with a steal and layup as Sachse jumped out in front, and strong on-ball defense helped the Mustangs build an early 14-8 advantage. Rowlett responded with energy of its own, trimming the margin late in the quarter to make it 16-13 heading into the second.
Rowlett continued to battle early in the second quarter, tying the game at 16-all and forcing Sachse to reset. Nailah Davis steadied the Mustangs at the free-throw line, knocking down multiple trips after offensive rebounds to restore momentum. Jocelyn Lewis added a strong drive and finish through contact, and Sachse’s half-court pressure began to wear down the Lady Eagles.
Thompson came up with another steal in transition, and after her contested layup attempt missed, Lewis was there for the putback to push the lead to double digits. Lily Burrow later connected from beyond the arc, and Sachse closed the half on a surge to take a 35-22 lead into the break.
Thompson led all scorers with 23 points. Davis added 16 points in the victory, followed by 13 from Arianna Gregory.
