The deadline to pay 2025 property taxes in Dallas County is approaching, with payments due by Jan. 31, 2026, according to the Dallas County Tax Office.

Property owners who do not submit payment by the deadline will incur an additional 7 percent of the unpaid balance in penalty and interest beginning Feb. 1. Dallas County Tax Assessor-Collector John R. Ames urged residents to take action ahead of the cutoff to avoid added costs.

The tax office also reminded taxpayers who plan to mail payments to pay close attention to postmark requirements. Payments sent by mail are credited based on the U.S. Postal Service postmark date, not the date the payment is placed in a mailbox. Mail bearing postmarks after the deadline will be assessed full penalty and interest.

Recent changes in how the USPS processes and applies postmarks could result in envelopes receiving a later postmark than expected. To ensure payments are postmarked by Jan. 31, taxpayers are encouraged to visit a post office counter and request a manual postmark or to send payments using registered or certified mail, which provides both a mailing receipt and tracking.

In addition to mailing payments, Dallas County residents have several other options to pay their property taxes. The tax office offers online payments through its website using an electronic check at no additional cost. Credit and debit card payments are also accepted online, though those transactions are subject to convenience fees charged by the card processor.

Payments may be made online by visiting the Dallas County Tax Office website at www.dallascounty.org/tax or by scanning the QR code included on property tax statements. Taxpayers may also submit payments by phone by calling 1-877-253-0150.

Ames encouraged residents to take advantage of online services when possible, noting that digital payment options allow taxpayers to complete transactions without waiting in line or visiting an office in person.
