Losing a district game is rare for the Sachse girls basketball team.
To lose consecutive district games is more of a rare feat.
Coming into this season, the Lady Mustangs had lost just one district game over the previous four seasons. But after Sachse lost to Wylie and Lakeview Centennial by a combined eight points in a span of four days, the Lady Mustangs made sure that losing streak didn’t extend to three.
Junior Lily Burrow and sophomore Trinity Thompson went 4 of 4 on free throws over the game’s last 54 seconds, and Sachse pulled away late to earn a 38-29 home win over Wylie East on Friday afternoon.
“It feels good to get this one because we’re in the part of our schedule where we have several tough games in a row,” Sachse head coach Donna McCullough said. “It’s tough to get through those four games, but it’s a big win for us today, and the girls did what they needed to do to pull it out at the end.”
Senior Arianna Gregory led all scorers with 21 points, followed by nine from Thompson.
