Last week was a busy one on the court for the Sachse boys and girls basketball teams.
With a winter storm forcing the postponement of a recent night of games for the Mustangs, those contests were rescheduled for last week, meaning both the boys and girls teams played three games apiece.
Despite the hectic schedule, Sachse enjoyed a productive week, particularly on the girls side.
The Lady Mustangs faced little resistance in cruising to a 3-0 week, winning all three games by at least 20 points and their final two by at least 50. Sachse capped a perfect week on the hardwood with a dominant 70-20 victory over Naaman Forest last Friday night. Three days earlier, Sachse started fast and never relented in a 69-15 home win over South Garland.
Against South Garland, Sachse led 32-4 at the end of the first quarter, 44-8 at halftime and 62-13 after three quarters.
Arianna Gregory and Trinity Thompson outscored the Lady Titans by themselves, as each finished with 18 points. Lily Burrow added 12 points in the blowout victory. Nailah Davis chipped in eight, followed by four from Addison Hodge, three from Jocelyn Lewis and two apiece from Jayla Morris, Lillian Emeir and Maya McClarity.
Sachse opened the week with a 56-33 road win at North Garland. The Lady Mustangs built a commanding 19-5 lead after the first quarter and then held the Lady Raiders scoreless in the second quarter. Thompson led all scorers with 27 points, followed by 18 from Gregory.
The Lady Mustangs improved to 20-10 overall and 12-3 in District 9-6A while clinching a top-three finish in the district standings.
Sachse’s boys team also went undefeated last week.
The Mustangs capped off the perfect week with a 55-42 road win at Naaman Forest on Friday night.
That victory came three days after Sachse defeated South Garland 54-44 to avenge an earlier loss to the Titans. After falling on a buzzer-beater in the teams’ previous meeting, the Mustangs made sure South Garland did not get another late opportunity, outscoring the Titans 35-26 in the second half after holding a slim 19-18 halftime lead.
Matthew Hudgins scored 17 points to lead Sachse, followed by 11 from Brayden Banks, 10 from Jordan Anderson-Urune, eight from Caleb Lindsey, three apiece from Miles Johnson and Preston Shaw and two from Teagan Duffie.
To open the week, Sachse earned a 55-38 home win over North Garland in a game that had been rescheduled due to the winter storm.
The difference was a 19-9 second-quarter run by the Mustangs, who led 11-7 at the end of the first quarter and 30-16 at halftime.
Hudgins delivered another strong performance, finishing with 23 points. Dupont added 11, followed by eight from Anderson-Urune, six from Banks, four from Johnson and three from Lindsey.
Sachse improved to 16-13 overall and 9-4 in District 9-6A. The Mustangs entered the week one game behind district leader Wylie (10-3), tied with Wylie East (9-5) and one game ahead of both Rowlett (8-5) and Naaman Forest (8-6).
