LUCAS – Sachse hung on in overtime to capture a wild 58-57 overtime win over Rockwall Monday night, advancing to the area round of the 6A basketball playoffs by refusing to lose even when they had plenty of chances to do so at a packed and rowdy Lovejoy High School gym.
The Mustangs (19-14) held a big lead in the third quarter then lost it all in the fourth quarter as they went to a slow down offense. They trailed in overtime but found a way to come back and take the victory, thanks in part to big baskets from Matthew Hudgins and Preston Shaw.
“It was a great game to play in, a great game to coach and probably a great game to watch,” head coach Micah Moore said. “I am just so proud of these kids and their ability to come back and never give up.”
The win was Sachse’s first playoff victory in five years and just the second postseason win in program history.
The Mustangs will face the winner of the Waxahachie-Copperas Cove game, being played tonight, at a time and site to be determined likely this weekend.
