The Sachse and Wylie baseball teams earned a split of their season series last week, with the Pirates taking Game 1, 4-3, after a bases-loaded walk, while the Mustangs salvaged the split Friday with a convincing 7-2 home win.
In Game 1, Sachse took a 3-2 lead in the top of the seventh inning after Luke Visser scored on a passed ball.
Wylie capitalized on Sachse mistakes in the home half of the seventh. An error to begin the frame led to an RBI single by Preston Camp, which tied the score at 3-3.
Following an intentional walk to Chase Martin and a walk to Chase Chapman to load the bases, Jan Jimenez drew the third straight walk by Wylie, with his free pass notching the win for the Pirates.
Wylie drew 11 walks.
In the rematch, a four-run bottom of the first for Sachse proved to be the difference. Alex Moreno drove in the first Mustangs run after he was hit by a pitch. Greyson Darden followed with a bases-loaded walk. William Martin tacked on an RBI single, and Julian Moreno made it 4-1 Mustangs with an RBI groundout.
The top two batters in Sachse’s lineup, Colt Upchurch and Nathan Sereseroz, combined for five hits.
Darden worked around five hits and two runs with five strikeouts in 4.2 innings. Carson Dasilva then slammed the door on Wylie’s comeback chances, allowing two hits in 2.1 scoreless innings.
