Sachse senior guard Matthew Hudgins and sophomore guard Trinity Thompson were named to the Texas Association of Basketball Coaches All-Region II-6A Team on Tuesday.
Hudgins played a key role in helping lead the Mustangs to their first-ever appearance in the regional semifinals. Sachse defeated Rockwall 58-57 in overtime in bi-district, then outlasted Waxahachie 46-34 in overtime in the area round. Hudgins made a 3-pointer late in the fourth quarter to extend Sachse’s area-round game against Waxahachie into overtime. The Mustangs fell to Cypress Ranch 57-34 in the regional semifinals.
Hudgins led Sachse in scoring with 14.1 points per game to accompany 2.7 rebounds and 1.0 steals.
Thompson, meanwhile, was a force on both ends of the court for the Lady Mustangs. She averaged a team-high 18.7 points per game with 6.4 rebounds, 2.9 steals and 2.2 assists. She was named the Most Valuable Player of District 9-6A following the conclusion of the season.
