The Sachse boys golf team was focused throughout the District 9-6A tournament with the Mustangs turning in a final score of 580 – their score was 44 strokes better than runner-up Wylie, also a regional qualifier. The Pirates shot a five-player score of 624.
“They just grind as a team and feed off each other,” Sachse head coach KD Goodloe said. “They work well as a team, even though it’s an individual sport. I think this is our year to go to state. In the past, we’ve struggled at regionals, but this year, we have a good shot.”
Sachse’s Andrew Scott had the lowest score of any golfer, shooting a 68 on day 1 and 69 on day 2, for a two-day total of 237.
“Andrew is always locked in,” Goodloe said. “He got a little frustrated on the front nine today, but he pulled it back together on the back nine.”
Dylan Wisener took third overall with a 143, Landon Hilario was fourth with a 144, Kayden Massey shot 160 and Jayden Chu carded a 163.
Sachse’s team score of 947 proved more than enough to earn the Lady Mustangs a team berth in the regional tournament. The Lady Mustangs were particularly sharp on the second day with all five golfers shooting lower scores on the event’s final day, good for second place in the team standings.
Hunter Cheek placed third overall with a 168, Valerie Dunaway was sixth with a 36-hole score of 184, Hannah Hoeinghaus finished one stroke behind Dunaway with a seventh-place score of 185, Natalie Cheek shot 186, and Ava Schwartz carded a 224.
