Garland ISD trustees unanimously approved naming South Garland High School’s varsity gymnasium in honor of alumnus and NBA star Tyrese Maxey during their Tuesday, July 28 regular meeting, recognizing his accomplishments and lasting impact on the school community.
Proceedings began with the presentation of the Going the Extra Mile, or GEM, Award to Myriam Diaz, who was also recognized for 35 years of service to the district.
The district also introduced two new administrators to the community: Assistant Superintendent of Leadership Michael Arreola and Assistant Superintendent of Safety and Operations Jennifer Duplessis.
