Motorists will be traveling down Pleasant Valley Road at a much slower rate of speed in February following a recent city council vote.

After seeing a presentation from city staff as well as citizen input council members voted unanimously to reduce the speed limit on the well-traveled road from 45 to 30 miles per hour.

Several Pleasant Valley residents referred to the road as a “death trap” during the citizen input portion of the meeting.

Pleasant Valley Road currently has a speed limit of 45 miles per hour from Elm Grove

Road to the President George Bush Turnpike.

According to Director of Engineering Greg Peters, city staff completed a speed study for Pleasant Valley Road between Miles and Elm Grove Rd. The study showed that motorists are comfortable traveling at 45 miles per hour. Crash data for 2013-’15 included 11 crashes on Pleasant Valley two involved were trash trucks.

The road is a two‐lane asphalt, 24‐feet wide with no shoulders and bar ditches on each side of the road in varying depth and width said Peters.

Staff recommended a 40 miles per hour speed limit for Pleasant Valley from Miles Road to Elm Grove with advisory speed of 25 miles per hour at the two 90‐degree curves and adding additional warning signs and chevron signs at all curves.
