A “Be Prepared” seminar was the main focus of the Sachse Chamber of Commerce February networking luncheon as chamber member and insurance agent Lyndsey Rhode spoke about emergency preparedness and how to protect family and property against all types of hazards.
“It is so important to develop, practice, and maintain emergency plans that reflect what must be
done before, during, and after a disaster to protect you and your property,” she said. “Everyone should assemble a disaster supplies kit that contains the food, water, and other supplies in sufficient quantity to survive following a disaster.”
Being prepared can reduce fear, anxiety, and losses that accompany disasters, and the agent noted everyone should know what to do in the event of a fire and where to seek shelter during a tornado.
One important note to everyone was to keep emergency contact information in cell phones and on an updated paper list.
The FEMA flyers handed out during the talk stressed that if a disaster occurs in a community, local government and disaster-relief organizations will try to help, but everyone needs to be ready as well.
