Trains have long been tied to the history of Sachse. In 1886, the city’s founder, William Sachse, gave some of his property to the railroad which led to a depot being built and the town being named after him.
Today, a train is incorporated in the city’s logo as an homage to the past and the Sachse Historical Society, founded in 1989, continues to look for ways to preserve history and engage citizens.
The museum recently acquired a large-scale model train, a 1920 Southern Pacific Railroad steam locomotive, built by Wilbur T. Frey in 1996, which is currently on display. Frey hand-built wooden model steam locomotives from photographs and memory, without plans or blueprints. He was known for building highly detailed models of extinct trains.
