It’s less than two months into the start of the 2024-25 school year, but for Sachse senior running back Brendon Haygood, he has decided where he will play for the next four years.

This past Sunday, Haygood announced on his personal X (formerly Twitter) account that he gave a verbal commitment to Boise State’s football team.

Haygood, listed at 5-foot-9, 180 pounds, brings an athletic, physical brand of football in which he can break long runs in the open field.

Haygood’s breakaway speed was seen in last week’s 44-17 home win over Sachse. With Sachse backed up to their own 2-yard line to begin their second drive of the ballgame, Haygood took the handoff, made a cut to his right and made a Wylie defender whiff on a tackle before outrunning the Pirates’ defense for a 98-yard touchdown.

After being held to 35 rushing yards on nine carries in Sachse’s first game of the season – a 31-10 loss at Coppell – Haygood has been carving up opposing defenses ever since. He has averaged over 10 yards per carry in each of Sachse’s last three games – all wins – and rushed for more than 130 yards in each game with at least one touchdown. Haygood finished with 146 yards on 10 carries with a score in the win against Wylie.

Through four games, Haygood is averaging 11.1 yards per carry with 478 rushing yards and six touchdowns. His play is a big reason why Sachse has won three straight games and is 3-1 overall and 2-0 in District 9-6A.

Haygood, a three-year varsity player, is on pace to exceed his 938 rushing yards and nine touchdowns from a year ago. As a junior, he helped to lead the Mustangs to an undefeated district championship. For his high school career, he has 1,592 rushing yards with 21 total touchdowns.

Haygood, listed as a 3-star recruit by 247Sports, chose Boise State over Arkansas State, Bowling Green, Hawaii, Kansas State, Louisiana, New Mexico, Sam Houston State, San Diego State, Toledo and Washington State.
