Final preparations are taking place ahead of Heritage Park’s Grand Opening Saturday, Oct. 5 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.
After months of construction work, Sachse residents of all ages will have a new and improved place to play.
The grand opening of the Heritage Park expansion will take place from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 5.
A significant feature of the expanded park is its new playground with a wooden train and other elements that resemble a depot.
“The playground was modeled after a train depot to honor Sachse’s heritage,” said Esther Weaver, communications strategist for the city of Sachse.
The railroad became an important aspect of Sachse’s formation and history after William Sachse gave the railroad 100 feet of right-of-way frontage through his holdings in 1883, Weaver added.
The upcoming event will provide activities for all ages, food and an opportunity to explore the new equipment in all areas of the new park. Following the ribbon-cutting ceremony at the Amphitheater, guests can enjoy the rest of the park while listening to live music by Jett Platt. Free commemorative posters will be handed out while supplies last, and the first 1,400 guests who pick up a food ticket at the Depot will receive a light refreshment. Games, crafts, a photobooth and Senior Activity Center activities will be at different areas throughout the park, along with other ways to celebrate the grand opening.
Several forms of entertainment will be located on the Event Lawn. Professor Pop’s Bubble Show will blow bubbles nonstop from The Bubble Wagon. Previews of the community center’s taekwondo, yoga and Zumba classes will be taught by their regular instructors. The Traveling Recreational Activities in Nature (T.R.A.I.N.), which include yard games, will also be available on the Event Lawn.
