Sachse offensive coordinator Jay Northcutt has a message for Sachse’s fans and the opposition.
“They’re going to see the same old offense that they normally see,” he said. “We’ll do what we do.”
That’ll mean spreading the pigskin around and running it to keep opposing defenses off balance.
The triggerman in all that will be junior Jalen Mayden, who returns after a stellar sophomore campaign; it started shaky for the then first-time varsity player, but by the end Mayden was the top offensive player in the district. By season’s end, Mayden had thrown for near 2,500 yards and 32 touchdowns, while rushing for over 500 yards and four more scores.
This season, the much-prized college recruit returns a little bigger and leaner after a successful offseason. More importantly, he’s a seasoned varsity competitor.
“I think (he) makes us more versatile with our running and passing, and him being experienced gives us some experience and stability with the offense,” Northcutt said.
