In their second district game of the season, the Sachse Lady Mustangs delivered a dominating 59-37 victory over the Wylie Lady Pirates on Tuesday night.

Leading the charge for Sachse (2-0 District 9-6A) was Charish Thompson with an impressive 19 points. Camille Logan contributed 14 points and showcased her defensive ability with six steals, while Trinity Thompson added 12 points and eight steals.

“I think we played good and showed up early in the game,” said Sachse head coach Donna McCullough. “We played a little fast early, but then we had to settle it down so we can find our place in the press offense. Once we did that, I think we were able to break free a little bit.”

Wylie (1-1) struggled to find their rhythm offensively but saw a strong effort from Skylar Harvey, who led the team with 13 points. Competing in the same region and district, the Lady Pirates aim to rebound in their next outing.

“I think we had some positives going into this game, like not letting them score off their sets,” said Wylie head coach Jessica Linson. “Everything was stuff that we gave to them off turnovers and transitions. So, for a team like that to not be able to score off their sets means we did a great job defensively. We just have to do a better job at taking care of the ball and avoiding turnovers.”

Sachse set the tempo early, building a double-digit lead by halftime through relentless full-court pressure and quick transitions. Wylie made a push in the fourth quarter but couldn’t overcome the Lady Mustangs’ well-rounded offensive attack and suffocating defense.

“This is a great win, but we will keep focusing on cleaning up some of our play,” McCullough added. “We still have some miscommunication going on defensively, and we know where we need to improve for our upcoming games.”

The Lady Mustangs will next face Lakeview Centennial on Friday night at home, while the Lady Pirates take on South Garland High School on Friday.

As for the Sachse boys, the Mustangs fell to West Mesquite, 54-41, also on Tuesday, in what was their final non-district game before district play starts this Friday at Lakeview Centennial.

Austin Young scored 11 points for Sachse.
