GARLAND — The good news is Sachse heads into tonight’s game at Mesquite with two wins under its belt.
Even better, the Mustangs looked more polished in their 33-19 triumph over Plano West on Sept. 1 than they did the previous week: a 47-41 overtime victory at Byron Nelson. However, even though Sachse improved, there is still much work left to do, particularly in getting ready for what head coach Mark Behrens believes, based on history, will be an athletic and currently unbeaten Skeeter team.
In its opening week victory over Lake Highlands, 31-26, the Skeeters produced 394 yards of offense. Quarterback Jonathan Garza tossed for 233 yards and two touchdowns in that game, while also rushing for 62 yards and two more scores.
A week ago, Garza went 11-for-16 for 148 yards and three scores in a 41-34 victory against Garland, which is a member of District 10-6A along with Sachse. The Skeeters also stung the Owls for 363 yards on the ground, with Lazarus Fisher carrying the ball 18 times for 117 yards.
“I want to win every game in non-district, but the most important thing is to improve,” Sachse head coach Mark Behrens said after whipping the Wolves.
