A year after the Sachse girls’ soccer team lost 2-1 to Rockwall in the third round of the playoffs, the Lady Mustangs atoned for that setback in dramatic fashion.

Playing in the third round for the second consecutive season, Sachse got the go-ahead goal by senior Raeya Carthon halfway through double overtime. The Lady Mustangs held on for a 3-2 win over Klein Oak in the Region II-6A semifinals at Tomato Field in Jacksonville last Friday.

With the win, Sachse advanced to play The Woodlands in the Region II-6A Division I final, set for Tuesday, April 1, back at Tomato Field in Jacksonville. It will mark the Lady Mustangs’ first appearance in the fourth round of the postseason since 2017.

“We haven’t been this far in a really long time,” said Kristen Campbell, Sachse head coach. “It’s amazing what this team has accomplished. From the beginning of the year until now, we’ve grown so much. I’m just really proud of them.”

Carthon scored the last two goals for Sachse last Friday. Junior Kate McCallister netted the first Lady Mustang goal.
